I'm gutted that there was no understanding in the 80s..I was trained like an animal, which created conflict in my mind. I thought I was bad, naughty, thick. I had no interests that other people had. I coped out and decided to play the comedian. Robin Williams style 🙄

It's a wonderful place for the ceremony if a little chilly in January. I was there to cheer on my son, fumbled with the camera instead of cheering. But congratulations to all who received their awards today and to the University for the fantastically well-organized ceremony.

I have Asperger's and was diagnosed with it at 9 and now I'm 28 and I'd admit although it has in some ways socially diss advantaged me it has also gifted me in many ways.

I believe that my ex is on the Autism Spectrum. Brilliant and handsome fellow but..... he has struggled through life with social awkwardness. He made it to the end of grad school and then dropped out weeks before graduation and never went back. Just could not get on the right track again after he fell off. Colleges need to develop systems and counselors that reach out to such individuals. He went on disability at the age of 45. Was hospitalized for depression and general anxiety disorder for a while....which I don't believe is a proper diagnosis. He exhibits so many Asperger's traits. So sad that so many brilliant adults are walking around in life struggling when they could be shining. I believe that I am an adult on the spectrum too...self diagnosed. Most likely why we were attracted to each other....we came from the same planet!

I've attempted university many a times over the course of 10 years and I've found that it really isn't for me and that's okay.

I am a student at the University of Lincoln and last year was fortunate enough to catch Chris' lecture on Owls and Bats at the University this year. I'm not studying anything near life sciences but after watching his program on BBC about his life with Asperger's (something i share with him) I just had to go to his lecture. Previously i was a student at Plymouth University and unfortunately allowed my Asperger's to prevent me engaging fully with the University experience. Sadly on top of this that particular University's support services, at the time at least, was substandard at best. One of the major reasons i choose to restart my studies in Lincoln was because i truly believed the services they had to support students were some of the best, if not the best i had seen on the various open days i had attended across the country. And although i had learnt from my prior experience at my former Alma-Mater and had a hugely positive experience during my first year at Lincoln and am very much looking forward to my second this September and such did not require continuous access to the services, it is reassuring that they are their and i have seen first hand and with friends the excellent service they provide. Thank you Chris and thank you Lincoln. I hope Chris comes back to the University soon and i might have the opportunity to thank him personally.
